Missing Jessie

Jessie has left a big hole in my heart. Toby and I are missing her a lot.
These are Jessie's Tibetan prayer flags that my vet Dr. Tom gave to me the day that Jessie left us.
The inscription reads:
You have gone ahead
And nothing is the same
Leaving paw prints on my heart
That will always remain.

I was looking at some pictures of Jessie today.
These were from Jessie's first exposure to the pool.
She was so little.
John loved her so much.

Jessie 1999 - 2013

We lost our Jessie girl today. She would have been 14 years old this coming May which is very old for a Golden.
The last few months have not been easy for her. It was obvious that her legs and hips were bothering her. She was no longer able to use the ramp into the yard and this past week she had been stumbling and falling a lot. She made noises in her sleep and I wondered if she was in pain. Still, the decision was hard. She still enjoyed her food and her ear rubbies.
The vet came to the house this morning and together we decided it was best to let her go while she still had some dignity rather than waiting until she fell and couldn't get up.
God bless our vet. He was kind and gentle and Jessie slipped away peacefully.
She is with her Daddy now. I know John will take good care of her.
Good-bye, little sweetheart. Mommy loves you.

Buddies

Sean loves being taken care of. He seeks out Riley and asks to be groomed. He's still just a big baby at heart.

Sharing

I don't know what the fascination is but Riley insists on sleeping in Casey's bed. Sometimes he shoves her out even when she is sound asleep. Today she stood her ground so he decided to share it with her.

Riley has found a new water obsession

Riley is ever in search of more sources of water.
His latest is the shower. Not licking the shower floor after someone has been in the shower. No, that is too mundane. Any cat can do that.
No, Riley likes to watch the water as its coming out of the shower head.
While someone is in the shower.
It's rather disconcerting to be in the shower when you know you are home alone and suddenly the shower door starts to slowly open.
He likes to stand on the toilet tank and use his paws and head to wedge the door open. Even if I close it, he is quick to open it again. The first time he did it I thought I was reliving the shower scene from Psycho.
Now I'm used to it.
Actually, I think it's funny and of course I'm proud of him for being so smart.
